Increment 4 Team Celebrates Permit Milestone

Permits are an integral part of any construction project. They allow teams to move from planning to installation while also representing the years of coordination, communication, design, and management that happen behind the scenes. At the UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital, construction scopes are organized into increments, each managed by an individual team.
Most recently, Increment 4, which oversees the new hospital’s exterior, received the permits needed to begin fabrication and installation of its scope of work.
Project Superintendent Alex Campbell shared what it took to reach this milestone: “The permitting process is one of the most complex components of an OSHPD project, requiring approved drawings, specifications, and a field-approved TIO. From initial submittal to final permit issuance, the process spanned nearly three years and involved significant coordination with governing agencies and project stakeholders. Receiving the permit allows us to start the work.”
Increment 4’s work will closely interface with Increment 3, which oversees the hospital’s structural steel.
The timing of Increment 4’s permit is especially significant as Increment 3 continues steel erection across the site. As the structure rises, Increment 4 can begin advancing the exterior work that will follow and integrate with the structural steel. Receiving this permit represents years of work and an important step forward for the project.
